The
Story of LaM

Last
fall , writer Neil Gaiman hosted
a show for the Fox Movie Channel called " 13 Nights Of
Fright".
They
found him a real life Morticia Addams to play his dark, Goth
un-dead silent assistant. Her name was Malena. Neil also had a living assistant
back home. Her name is
Lorraine
. Little did he know, at this point, they
were probably the same person. They wear the same clothes, like the same music,
and both have an affinity for dead things.
After seeing 13 Nights of Fright,
Lorraine
went to Malena's website and wrote her a letter telling her how much she loved
the show and asked her if she would do a reading. (Malena's
pretty magic like that ) They spoke
for about three hours that night and haven't stopped since.
It
soon became clear what they liked best in the world was music. And one by one
the songs came together and so did the music. They
are now joined at the hip; talking, writing, giggling, and of course singing and
playing NON STOP!
Gothic folk hasn't produced a group as enchanting as this since.....well,
never until NOW! So, watch for these sinfully seductive, sensuous banshees.
Although the album isn't out yet, you will see them...........Everyone goes to
sleep sometime.
And
that's the beginning of Lorraine a' Malena.
Says
Lorraine,
"
It didn't take Malena and I very long before we started talking about music... me wanting to do a solo CD
and her wanting to do a CD away from Los Angeles. We discovered we both sang, we
both played the violin, even looked alike. We found out we loved the same music,
and wanted very badly to make an album that
was beautiful and scary, dark and haunting. The kind of music
that looked into the darkest part of the night and finds all your
favorite people there dancing "
Says
Malena,
"I
started telling Lorraine how being a vocalist was a lonely road. No matter how
well you sing, if you don't have anyone to play with you it's a no go. I've sang
other people's songs for years but none appealed to me like Lorraine and Neil's.
When I heard her CD, I knew it was a blessing. I had no idea Lorraine played the
music I loved so much. Just the notion that someone was singing and writing the
kind of music I liked was a new thing for me. I used to play the violin as a
young lady and when I heard Lorraine, I cried! I wanted to play again so badly.
I told Lorraine how I used to play in a youth symphony but had sold my violin
years ago. She offered to send me her old violin, the one she wrote all the
flash girls songs on. Of course, I about fainted and couldn't believe what she
was saying! Sure enough, a week later I received her violin in the mail. I love
it so much knowing it was hers and I plan on playing it beautifully for her. The
song Isobel has a violin solo that I WILL be able to play sometime soon. All it takes is a little bit of practice, right? Lorraine and I balance each
other's talents out beautifully. She has what I lack and vice a versa. Neil's lyrics are so haunting, comical and romantic. I can't wait to be
a banshee!"
Neil
will be writing a lot of the songs for us, some of his old ones will come out
again from the Flash Girls and Folk Underground CD's. We are doing a new Neil
song titled, "Just Me and Eve" where we make the Moulin Rouge girls
look like Nuns. Solo artist Lojo Russo is coming along to perform the coolest
haunting version of the Irish traditional song " I'll Tell Me
Ma" ever done. There will also
be a scattering of original songs by our
own lovely selves.
In
the musician department we have Claudia Gonson from the Magnetic Fields will be
playing piano, Chris Ewan from the Future Bible Heroes is playing some
keyboards. Robin Adnan Anders from Boiled in Lead is working his magic with
drums , Adam Stemple , from the TimMalloys (also writer of Singer of Souls, coming out from Tor Books in July ) is signed up as producer. Adam's bandmate, John Sjogren from the Tim Malloys will be sitting in on guitar and Lorraine's bandmates from Folk UnderGround, Paul Score
and Trevor Hartman will be around for a song or two as well.
Miles
Teves, artist extraordinaire and Malena's husband whom she calls, "Mr.
Gorgeous" (which she purrrs in a sexy Latina accent) is doing the cover.
So, you KNOW we'll look Divine.

CD titled " Mirror
